MantisX Scores and Evaluation: How to Read Your Training Data Correctly

MantisX explains: Train more precisely thanks to angle measurement

What is MantisX?

MantisX is an electronic shooting training system that attaches directly to the firearm. With built-in sensors, it analyzes every movement during aiming and trigger pull. The data is transmitted to an app that provides the shooter with detailed feedback in the form of scores, graphs, and specific suggestions for improvement. Analyzing this training data is crucial for performance enhancement. MantisX's precise analysis helps identify errors and refine technique.

The role of angle measurement

The most important component of MantisX is its precise angle measurement . It detects even the smallest changes in weapon position in all axes – horizontal and vertical. Even minimal deviations in holding or trigger pull are made visible.

  • MantisX measures with an accuracy of 1/8 degree on pistols .
  • In rifles, the system works even more precisely, with 1/16 degree increments .
  • If the ISSF disciplines (e.g., air pistol, air rifle, small-bore rifle) are activated in the app, all measurements are automatically set to 1/16 degree – regardless of the weapon.

This allows MantisX to achieve a level of precision that reveals flaws that even experienced shooters could hardly detect without technical aids.

How the points are calculated

MantisX calculates a score per shot . The more stable the weapon is held during aiming and trigger pull, the higher the score.

  • 90+ points : very clean technique
  • 80–89 points : solid, minor errors noticeable
  • Below 80 points : clear trigger or hold errors.

Regular evaluation of training data allows each shooter to track their progress and refine their technique.

The angle measurement thus makes it directly visible why a shot goes astray , instead of just showing the result on the target.

MantisX App rating

I have created tables for various applications as a reference aid. They are intended to support your training and are based on mathematically calculated values. The following tables are available:

Pistol shooters, dynamic pistol shooters, ISSF disciplines, rifle shooters (long distances) and rifle shooters (short distances)

Click on the table image and download the PDF document.

A careful evaluation of the results is essential in order to improve one's own performance and derive targeted training measures.

Conclusion: Make angles visible, improve technology

MantisX makes invisible errors visible with its precise angle measurement. Thanks to an accuracy of up to 1/16 of a degree, even the smallest deviations become traceable. Anyone who wants to systematically improve their technique – whether with a pistol, rifle, or in ISSF disciplines – gains a tool that goes far beyond traditional training.

The evaluation of the scores allows for an objective assessment of one's own abilities and helps to work specifically on weaknesses.
