Do not use conventional gun oil!
not use conventional weapon oil for rubber-o-rings , since many of these oils mineral oils or solvents that can attack rubber, swell or brittle. This can significantly shorten the lifespan of the O-rings and impair their tightness.
Recommended alternatives for O-rings:
To maintain or smear rubber-O rings, you should silicone-based products or special O-ring fats :
1. Silicone fat / silicone oil
- Compatible with rubber , including NBR (nitrile), EPDM and others.
- Prevents drying out and brittle.
- Ideal for O-rings in weapons, lamps, diving equipment, etc.
- Examples: OKS 1110 , Sonax silicone fat , Dow Corning 111
2. PTFE-based fat (Teflon)
- Also rubber -friendly and very temperature -resistant.
- Example: Krytox GPL 205 (high quality, but expensive)
3. Special products for O-rings
- There are also specially designated O-ring fat , which is often on a silicone basis and was explicitly made for seals.
What you should avoid:
- Waffen oils such as Ballistol , WD-40 , CLP or Brunox -they often contain solvents or mineral oils.
- Vaseline or engine oil - many rubber types attack, especially EPDM.
