FIRST STEPS

Once you have your equipment, you are ready to train. Before you begin training, check the training area and all firearms for safety. Make sure all firearms are unloaded and remove ALL live ammunition from the training area. Make sure your magazines are empty.

SET UP APP

Download the Mantis Laser Academy app from the App Store or Plays Store onto your smartphone/tablet.

Open the app > SETTINGS bottom right > SIGN IN/SIGN UP > Log in to your Mantis account or log in to create a new account with your email address > Go back to SETTINGS > MANAGE ACCOUNT > Enter Enter the full access code (supplied with the kits or can be purchased within the GET FULL ACCESS app) > SUBMIT after the code has been entered > Close and restart the app.

You can find illustrated instructions in the Laser Academy Knowledge Center – Activate Access Code .

LASER CARTRIDGE

The batteries are already installed in the laser cartridges supplied. There is a tiny, non-conductive plastic disc between the batteries. This is to protect the batteries during transport and must be removed before use.

Make sure all three LR626 batteries are installed and facing the correct direction:

  • For laser cartridges with two O-rings: The positive side (flat side with writing) of the battery must face the side of the laser cartridge from which the laser comes out.
  • For laser cartridges with three O-rings: The positive side (flat side with the label) of the battery must face the “primer cap” button.
  • Battery Types: LR626 (also known as LR66, SR626, SR66, AG4, 177/376, SR626SW)

With the laser cartridge removed from the weapon, check the operation of the laser by depressing the black rubber pad/primer while aiming the laser at a darker surface.

After making sure the laser is ready to be inserted into your weapon:

  • Place a drop of gun oil on each of the O-rings.
  • Insert the laser cartridge into the chamber of your weapon.

BLACKBEARD/X

The Blackbeard and BlackbeardX AR-15 Auto Trigger Reset Guide provides instructions for operating and aligning the laser to prepare the device for work with the Laser Academy app.

The red and green lasers work with most smart device cameras. To use the Blackbeard with IR laser, a device with an IR camera is required.

SETTING UP THE SMART TARGETS

Smart targets are automatically recognized and evaluated by Mantis Laser Academy. Using Smart Targets provides the most enjoyable and valuable training experience. With the control disk you can start, stop, delete and close the exercises in the app.

Place the Smart Targets in the desired location on a wall or in target stands. Remember that the app/camera detects light. Therefore, avoid areas where glare from lights, windows, televisions or mirrors could affect the detection of shots on the targets. Anything that can reflect light can lead to later troubleshooting.

Laser Academy Red area

Everything is red!

Does everything turn red for you? This happens very often with Android smartphones (e.g. Samsung). The ambient light is too bright for the camera. The phone shades , which are included in the standard kit, help.

Place a Phone Shades over the camera. Depending on the phone shades, everything disappears red. Test out the shades.

Using the control dial with Start/Stop and Clear/Close buttons helps run the app so the shooter doesn't have to walk back and forth to the device.

SET UP YOUR CELL PHONE/TRIPOD

  • Unfold the tripod and bring it to the desired height.
  • Attach the phone holder in a horizontal or vertical position. Tablet tripod adapters are not included.
  • Spread the phone holder wide enough to slide the phone into the adapter.
  • Aim the camera at the target(s) so that you can just see the phone out of their line of sight.
  • Place the tripod about one meter (max. 3m) away from the targets. The distance may vary depending on the quality of the device's camera. Zoom in as little as possible to capture the targets on the screen.

Launch the Mantis Laser Academy app on your phone, select an exercise and start training.
