Open Shooting – Multiple Targets
Basic target shooting with multiple target scoring and the ability to save sessions to track your progress.
Close Contact from Holster
Fast and precise shooting from a holster at close range. Each shot is placed, scored, and timed.
Duel – 5 Shots
At the signal, both shooters draw and fire, with the first to hit the bullseye scoring a point. A fun way to improve speed and accuracy.
Duel – Hunt
Find and hit the target as quickly as possible.
Holster Draw – Par Timed
A quick and precise shot from the holster, against a par time. The shot must be stopped before the final buzzer sounds.
Shot From Guard/Low Ready – Multi-Rep
Starting from a prompt, this mode measures your reaction time and tracks the accuracy of your shots.
Hunt
Find the destination as quickly as possible.
Bullseye – 10 Shots
Records results and intermediate results for 10-shot sessions. No time limit, no input prompt.
Compressed Surprise Break
The goal is to improve reaction speed and shooting accuracy by shooting in response to a signal tone.

The fastest and most precise shooting round against an opponent.

Known firearms that do not use the 9mm Pink Rhino Laser cartridges are compatible:
- Sphinx and Phoenix pistols – Too narrow for the 9mm laser cartridge
- B&T MK II
- Walther CCP
- Chiappa Rhino 60DS
- Laugo Arms Alien Pistol – The laser remains activated after each shot.
- CZ P10 S – Longer chamber, turn the end cap half a turn to extend the cartridge.
- FN 509 with Apex firing pin – This Apex Tactical firing pin is approximately 1/16″ shorter.
- Hi Point – The sharp firing pin damages the button quickly.
- Ruger SR series – The charge level indicator (LCI) ensures that the laser remains switched on after firing.
- S&W Bodyguard – The extractor presses on the edge and can cause the laser to shift.
- Tanfoglio pistols – Too narrow for the 9mm laser cartridge
Drills and Smart Targets
The Mantis Laser Academy The app offers a variety of drills focusing on different aspects of shooting. Some drills require specific smart targets, while others work with any smart target. Several drills support multiple targets, enabling local dueling competitions between shooters.
Drills that NONE specific goals require
- Open Shooting Multi-Target – Flexible practice on a variety of targets. Fire as many shots as you like at any speed.
- Open Shooting Single Target – Flexible practice on a single target. You can fire as many shots as you like at any speed.
- Close Contact from Holster – Fast and precise shot from the holster into the close contact position. At the signal tone, draw and fire immediately.
- Compressed Surprise Break – Fast and precise reaction time. Shoot immediately after the signal. Repeat. Each shot is placed, scored, and timed.
- Darts 01 – The player starts with 301, 501, or 701 points (adjustable). A double-in is required to score. Scoring is done in 3-throw rounds, similar to a darts game. The score achieved in each round is subtracted from the current score.
- Duel – 5 shot – Fastest and most accurate shooting round against an opponent. Determine the starting position of the firearm. At the signal, both shooters draw and fire. The fastest shot on target scores one point. Repeat. The shooter with the highest total score wins the round. 5 repetitions, two matching targets required.
- Duel – High Score – Fastest precise shooting round against an opponent. Determine the starting position of the weapon. At the signal, both shooters draw and fire. The fastest shot on the target is scored. Repeat. The shooter with the highest total score wins the round. 5 repetitions, two matching targets required.
- Emergency Reload – The weapon must be pointed at the target and the slide locked back. At the signal tone, eject the magazine, insert a new magazine, and release the slide. Reassess the target, aim, and fire. 5 repetitions
- Holster Draw / Par Time – Fast and accurate shot from the holster against a par time. Draw and fire immediately after the signal. The shot must be released before the par signal. Repeat. Par time 2,5 seconds and 5 repetitions.
- Holster Draw – A fast and accurate shot from the holster against a par time. Draw and shoot immediately after the signal. Repeat. 5 repetitions of 1 shot.
- Multiple Shots on Multiple Targets – Fast and precise shots, multiple shots at multiple targets. Set the desired number of shots.
- Shot from Guard/Low Ready – Single Rep – A quick and accurate shot from cover/contact position. Move to the target and fire immediately after the signal. Repeat. Single shot.
- Shot from Guard/Low Ready – Multiple Reps – Fast and accurate shot from cover/contact position. Move to the target and fire immediately after the signal. Repeat. 5 repetitions of 1 shot.
- Type 1 Malfunction – Simulating an empty chamber or a faulty cartridge, the first shot at the target will produce a click instead of a gunshot, indicating a malfunction during firing or loading. Eliminate the malfunction using tap, rack, and roll. Reassess the target, aim, and fire. 6 repetitions
- Type 1 Malfunction - Random - During a series of shots, simulate a random misfire or feeding malfunction, correct the malfunction (tap, rack, and roll), re-aim, and fire. 6 repetitions

SETTING UP THE SMART TARGETS
Smart Targets are used by Mantis Laser Academy Automatically detected and evaluated. Using Smart Targets offers the most enjoyable and valuable training experience. The control dial allows you to start, stop, delete, and close drills (exercises) in the app.
Place the smart targets in the desired location on a wall or in target stands. Keep in mind that the app/camera detects light. Therefore, avoid areas where glare from lights, windows, televisions, or mirrors could impair the detection of shots on the targets. Anything that can reflect light can lead to errors later on.
All red?
Does everything turn red on your screen? This happens very often with Android smartphones (e.g., Samsung). The ambient light is too bright for the camera. Phone Shades, which are included in the standard kit, provide a solution.
Apply a Phone Shades filter to the camera. Depending on the Phone Shades filter, all red will disappear. Test the different shades.
The use of the control disc with the Start/Stop and Clear/Close buttons helps in running the app, so the shooter does not have to walk back and forth to the device.
Laser Academy-Targets
A complete set of intelligent Laser Academy-Targets, specially developed for automatic hit detection and shot scoringOptimized for use with the Mantis Laser Academy App.
The targets are on durable cardboard printed and specially coated, to ensure reliable detection and long durability.
Are included two printouts each the targets "Bullseye", "Hostage" and "B-27" for exciting duel action as well as one expression each All other available targets. Individual specialty targets are also available in the webshop.
Set up phone/tripod
- Unfold the tripod and adjust it to the desired height.
- Attach the phone holder in a horizontal or vertical position. Tablet tripod adapters are not included.
- Spread the phone holder wide enough to slide the phone into the adapter.
- Point the camera at the target(s) so that you can just see the phone outside the line of sight.
- Set up the tripod approximately one meter (max. 3m) away from the targets. The distance may vary depending on the device's camera quality. Zoom in as little as possible to ensure the targets are visible on the screen.
- Start the Mantis Laser Academy Open the app on your phone, select an exercise and start training.
laser cartridge
The batteries are already installed in the supplied laser cartridges. A tiny, non-conductive plastic disc is located between the batteries. This protects the batteries during transport and must be removed before use. Ensure that all three LR626 batteries are inserted and oriented correctly.
- For laser cartridges with two O-rings: The positive side (flat side with inscription) of the battery must face the side of the laser cartridge from which the laser comes out.
- For laser cartridges with three O-rings: The positive side (flat side with the inscription) of the battery must point towards the “fuse” button.
Suggestions
- To protect the O-rings, it is recommended to put a drop of silicone oil on each of the O-rings.
- Remove the batteries from the laser cartridge after use.
- The end caps of the laser cartridges are consumable parts. It is recommended to order a suitable end cap at the same time as the cartridges.

The Mantis Laser Academy The app makes your dry-fire training interactive. It automatically detects laser hits on compatible targets and directly evaluates hits, reaction times, and training results.

Here's how to set up the app
Load the Mantis Laser Academy App from the App Store (iPhone) or the Play Store (Android) on your smartphone / tablet.
Open the app > SETTINGS bottom right > SIGN IN/SIGN UP > Contact your Mantis-Account or sign up to create a new account with your email address > Go back to SETTINGS > MANAGE ACCOUNT Enter the full access code (included with the kits or can be purchased within the GET FULL ACCESS app) SUBMIT, after the code has been entered > Close and restart the app.
